The Institut français and “Le Jour le plus Court” (“The Shortest Day”)
On this occasion, the Institut français Cinema Department is providing 6 film listings free of charge (in 35mm or DVD format, or available for download in subtitled versions on the IFcinéma platform), for non-commercial public screenings abroad (subject to territorial exclusions and rights).
In this context, the French cultural network abroad (French cultural departments, Instituts français, Alliances françaises…) and its partners are invited to show short films (fiction, documentary, animation, traditional or experimental films, 1-59 minutes in length), with the help of the Institut français Cinema Department if they like.
This is an opportunity for cinema program planners abroad to promote artistic and cultural diversity and an exchange of perspectives between French films and local cinematography, but also discussions and meetings in traditional or nontraditional locations (theaters, public spaces, cafés, etc.).
Procedure
For instructions in English, download the Handbook English Version.

The Agence du court métrage
In partnership with TV5 monde, for the Jour le plus Court, Agence du court métrage is providing the Instituts français and Alliances françaises with three themed film programs subtitled in English, Arabic, and Spanish: “Famille je vous aime,”(One big happy family)” “Le travail, c’est la santé,” (Work every day keeps the doctor away) and “The Artists”.
These films are available on DVD and will be sent via diplomatic bags.
You have until December 5th to submit your programs, but we recommend that you reserve your films as soon as possible once registration is open. You should take into account the time needed to receive the materials.
Like all participants, you can also select your own short films by choosing from among the 250 films in the Agence du court métrage catalogue.
Please remember that the rights to the films selected by Agence du court métrage were purchased for Friday, December 21 at 8am until Saturday, December 22 at 8am. The films may not be shown before or after these dates.
In addition, all orders placed on the Jour le plus Court website for screenings abroad must be reviewed by the Instituts français and the Alliances françaises.
Transporting the films and communication materials
The films, along with Jour le plus Court posters and postcards, will be sent via diplomatic bag. The French cultural services and/or their partners will be responsible for the cost of returning the materials via diplomatic bag.
Communication
All communication materials for events abroad as part of the Jour le plus Court festival should at least mention the sponsorship and include the logos of the Jour le plus Court, the CNC, and the Institut français (as well as those of Agence du court métrage, uniFrance films, La Fémis, or Les Lutins du court métrage, when applicable, for the programs created in partnership with these organizations).
